My First Show by Kevin Bradshaw
The strange one with the even stranger hats!!
Up at the crack of dawn, no idea why, wash and get dressed. Downstairs, make coffee, back upstairs, put on trousers ( unusual for our Kevin ) back down stairs again, look at clock, half past six, I never get up at this time. Okay, so its my first show with the Ferret Club and I'm excited, but to get up at that time of day isn't natural, not for me anyway.
Well not to worry, have another cup of coffee and put some bread in the toaster, go to find a box to carry my ferrets in. Rearrange shed, run inside to put out fire in toaster, start again with the toast, butter and eat with cold cup of coffee, make sandwiches and fill flask. Stark to look for a bag to put flask and sarnies in, fill kettle look for spare water bottle for ferrets. Time moving on, 8.30am, show starts at 10am, must try and get there early, start to load car.
Run through check list, carry-box, food and flask, water bottle for ferrets, petrol in car, entry tickets for show, all okay. All in car, say good-bye to sleepy wife, start off for show, 9am not a lot of traffic on the road, not long and I arrive at show ground, hand over tickets and ask directions to the ferret stand. Eventually I find the sing " Ferrets this way " then I see the tent looking so big, how did I miss it? As I pull up I spot some members I had met at other meetings and I ask where to park.
I unload food and flask, attach the water bottle to the cage ready for the ferrets, carry-box, go and park the car, walk back to tent, have a chat with everybody, put straw in show cage. Get carry-box, open box, SHOCK HORROR box empty, no ferrets. Sick feeling comes over me which quickly turns to panic, run back to car, turn out all the nooks and crannies, panic even more. Go back to tent, tell everybody to look for my ferrets, then someone asks " did you put them in the box this morning "? I can't remember. " why don't you phone home and ask your Missus " borrow mobile phone, dial home. " it's me, can you see if the ferrets are in the cage "? One minute later..... " yes they are why "? " Okay no problem see you later. "
Panic over, twit, I did leave them at home, we all had a good laugh over the incident and I did have a great time at the show, may be a good idea to remember to take the ferrets to the next show. You don't need a ferret to enjoy a show, we can always find you something to do.
