Working Ferrets

So What’s A Working Ferret?

ferrets_5
Traditionally, a working ferret is any ferret that is used for pest control. While this is mainly wild rabbits, there are those who would use them to flush out rats, mice and other rodents.
Thankfully not many people do this as ferrets can sustain serious injury, especially if cornering a female rat with young. There are also the usual health risks associated with rats.

At shows, people see our ferrets racing up coloured pipes, sleeping in hammocks, being stroked by endless groups of people and assume that they are all family pets, so we are often asked if we have any working ferrets.
In our experience, most will work, they all seem to have that instinct even after being domesticated for some 2000 years or more!
Of course there are some of our members that have working lines that they swear by and keep going year in year out!

While the most common use of ferrets is for pest control, they can be used in other ways you may not think of. More information can be found here.
